In 2007, the Leverhulme Trust continued the scheme whereby it awards prizes to reward those working in Universities in the Netherlands who had shown success in transferring research results between the industrial and academic sectors. Each award provides a prize of 7,000 to the graduate student engaged in the research and 63,000 to the host research department. Up to five awards can be made.
As last year, notice of the awards was sent to universities in the Netherlands; well over 100 departments were contacted. Following a review procedure, it has been decided that four awards for 2007 should now be made; these will be to:
- Eindhoven University of Technology in recognition of the work of Dr Ir Gerrit Oosterhuis
- Leiden University Medical Center in recognition of the work of Dr Esther Lips
- Utrecht University in recognition of the work of Dr Bert-Rik de Zwart
- Utrecht University in recognition of the work of Dr Ir Mireille van Damme.
The Trustees have welcomed the improved level of response in the second year of the awards. They have accordingly decided that the competition should be held for a third time in 2008.
