The Leverhulme Trust has announced the launch of a major new initiative to establish Leverhulme Research Centres in the UK, representing a commitment of up to £10m over 10 years for each Centre.
The objective is to fund innovative research of the greatest originality and to encourage bold, ‘disruptive’ thinking, capable of creating a step-change in the field and transforming our understanding of a topic of significance to contemporary societies.
Gordon Marshall, Director of the Leverhulme Trust said: “We hope that this significant financial investment in UK universities will stimulate new thinking, fresh approaches to the chosen theme, and work of the highest originality so that Leverhulme Research Centres have the potential to become internationally-recognised for their excellence.”
The Leverhulme Research Centres scheme opens in January 2015. Each UK university will be permitted to make one bid as the principal applicant institution, and applications will be assessed via a two-stage process. The closing date for outline applications will be 16 April 2015.
The application form will be available from 5 January 2015 from here.
