Leverhulme Trust awards £18.9 million in grants

The Leverhulme Trust is pleased to announce the award of this year’s Research Fellowships and International Academic Fellowships, together with the first of three rounds of Research Project Grants and of two rounds of Visiting Professorships.

Research Fellowships totalling £5.5 million were awarded to 115 researchers working on topics ranging from a folkloric study of the werewolf in the Greek and Roman World to environmental crime committed by corporations and total immersion training in the US army. Research Fellowships offer up to £55,000 over three to twenty-four months for experienced researchers to conduct a programme of research in any discipline. Applications for next year’s grants will open in September 2018.

The Trust has also awarded nineteen International Academic Fellowships, worth £0.6 million in total. Grants are worth up to £45,000 over three to twelve months to enable established UK-based researchers to spend a period of time in overseas research centres. Successful applicants’ destinations include France, Ghana and the United States. The 2019 round of applications will open in September 2018.

Fifty-four Research Project Grants were awarded. Offering up to £500,000 per grant over five years, this round totalled £11.9 million, funding a vast range of projects, from logical fractals to the futility of being selfish, via gendered networks in early medieval narratives. The Trust welcomes outline applications for Research Project Grants at any time.

Applications for Visiting Professorships are also welcome at any time. The Trust has most recently awarded twenty-two such grants, two in social sciences, seven in humanities and thirteen in sciences, totalling some £0.9 million. The next review date for applications is 11 October 2018.
