Actor Gary Carr can currently be seen playing the lead role in the National Theatre’s production of Terry Pratchett’s novel Nation. Gary was supported by a Leverhulme Trust scholarship throughout his training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), and graduated in 2008. In Nation, Gary takes on the lead role of Mau, and appears alongside another LAMDA graduate, Emily Taafe, who plays Ermintrude.
The playwright Mark Ravenhill who adapted Pratchett’s novel for the stage observes: “It is rare to find young actors who can play new work in big spaces, actors who can combine well-honed technique with an ability to invent and play strong individuals, who can also work within an ensemble. Emily and Gary are young actors who have this extraordinary combination of talents. That is why we've cast them as the leads in Nation. It is rather more than a coincidence that both of them are recent LAMDA graduates. The training offered by LAMDA is, I believe, the very best in the UK.”
Nation is playing at the Olivier Theatre until 21 February 2010. For more information, please visit: www.nationaltheatre.org.uk
