This summer the Trust will be upgrading its Grant Management System to provide enhanced functionality for users. The system will not be available to applicants and grant holders for approximately 10 days from 4pm on 20 July. The Trust will not be accepting Outline applications during this time, but if you have any queries, please contact Matt Dillnutt (firstname.lastname@example.org) as normal.
Research Project Grants are assessed via a two-stage process:
- There are no deadlines for Outline Applications, and their assessment is normally completed within three months
- An invitation to progress to the second stage – preparation of a Detailed Application – will be sent to those whose Outline Application has been approved.
A Detailed Application is only accessible to applicants once they have received an invitation to progress from the Outline stage.
The Detailed Application should be an elaboration of the Outline Application. Significant changes in the stated intention, aims or objectives of the research are not permitted. The total budget and personnel requested in the Detailed Application should be the same as that provided in the outline; the only budget changes that are allowable relate to adjustments in salary costs, which should conform to current pay scales.
Before making an application
Before submitting an application to the Trust, applicants are advised to read the Frequently Asked Questions, paying particular attention to the construction of the budgetary aspects of the application, and to consult with their institution’s finance office.
When completing the online application form, please refer to the Research Project Grant help notes
Application system login
To make an outline application, please access the Leverhulme Trust Grant Application System:
The recommended browsers to use for the application system are Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
**From 1 April 2017 applicants and grant holders from Oxford and Cambridge should select the University from the drop down list of institutions and enter their department/faculty/division in the Department field in the address section. Faculties and Departments will no longer be separate institutions.
Please ensure that you save a copy of your submitted Outline Application using the PDF/View options within the Grant Application System, as it will not be available after being assessed.
Feedback on applications
Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications for this scheme, it is not possible to provide feedback to individual applicants regarding unsuccessful applications.
Timing for Detailed Applications
Please note deadlines are the same every year.
